'not a pipe' presents n0iseband: a new approach to noise improvisation
A downloadable artware for Windows, macOS, and Linux
A noise music tool created for Noise Jam 3.
REFERENCE 1: When I was a kid you could buy these cassette tapes, and later they were CDs (maybe before that they were records?), that accompanied these music workbooks by the musician Jamey Aebersold. Basically, a backing band would play and you were supposed to learn jazz improvisation by playing over the backing track. Do they still have these kinds of things? This is the noise music equivalent. All backing tracks sourced from Free Music Archive (a cornucopia of beautiful music).
REFERENCE 2: I never played ROCK BAND on the Nintendo Wii but i get the idea, i just didn't like the music. Now I've fixed it.
INSTRUCTIONS: Run the software and click to start. Each letter and number on your keyboard are keys to play new sounds on your instrument. Perform a solo over the backing track. Don't like the song? Click the mouse to advance to the next track, but your sounds will be scrambled too.
Coded in the L5 creative coding library. (Try it, it's fun!)
This artware tool and any music you make with it are licensed Creative Commons By Attribution Noncommercial Share-Alike CC BY-NC-SA.
Sorry, there are a lot of audio samples in this in wav form. It's 94MB!

Download
Install instructions
Windows: Try the executable. I made it on Linux. Hopefully it works.
Mac: Try the executable. You'll have to go to Settings > Privacy and Security to allow it to "open anyway" since it's an unsigned app.
Linux: Download and install Love2d. Then run the noiseband.love file with it. (Drag and drop the file on the Love application, or run from the command line using Love2d).

THIS IS SO FUCKING COOLL !!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAA
Also seeing that you sampled / included projects like To live and shave in LA and merzbow was really cool too
will try to remember to check out the other ones I didn't recognize hehe
Hi, the windows executable doesn't seem to work. I'm getting errors for missing dependencies for lua51.dll, love.dll, and SDL2.dll
same! I really like the concept so i'd love it if there was a fix
Re-uploaded, now with those missing files! Can you try again and let me know if it works now?
works!
Ok, try the new uploaded one! Download the windows zipped file, extract/unzip it, then try running it, and let me know! Thanks
Now it works!
